Mission Statement & Values

Mission Statement

As health sciences library workers, our mission is to improve health education and research by facilitating access to information and empowering individuals to critically assess evidence. We are active partners in the education, research, training and clinical needs of our communities and are committed to promoting  well-being and inclusive excellence.

Values

Accuracy and Integrity

We are knowledge-centered and dedicated to providing accurate and up-to-date health information resources and services for our library users. We collect, preserve, organize, and disseminate information with integrity and respect for our users’ unique needs, seeking their feedback wherever possible.

Community and Collaborations

We foster cooperation through our partnerships with the Health Science Center, the UF Health clinical care network, the University of Florida broadly, and the surrounding community. We strive to be a nexus of collaboration among different disciplines and perspectives. We believe that open, respectful, and transparent approaches are key to providing the best support for our users.

Inclusion and Accessibility

We believe everyone should have equitable access to learning, care, and work environments that are safe and welcoming. We prioritize inclusion and accessibility for library users from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. We seek a respectful and empathetic approach in empowering users to engage with information services and library spaces. We use fair and transparent policies and procedures in our day-to-day work, reassessing them frequently when users’ needs evolve.

Lifelong Learning and Innovation

We adapt to meet the evolving needs of our users and the changing landscape of health information. We actively seek to expand our own expertise, be a center for the creation and discovery of new knowledge, and pursue new ideas and innovations in support of our mission. We do this through investing in our employees’ and users’ professional development and recognizing their accomplishments.
