Mission Statement & Values

Mission Statement

As health sciences library workers, our mission is to improve health education and research by facilitating access to information and empowering individuals to critically assess evidence. As active partners in the education, research, training and clinical needs of our communities, we are committed to promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice in healthcare.

Values

Accuracy and Integrity

We are knowledge-centered and dedicated to providing accurate and up-to-date health information resources and services for our library users. We collect, preserve, organize, and disseminate information with integrity and respect for our users’ unique needs.

Community and Collaborations

We foster cooperation through our partnerships with the Health Science Center, the UF Health clinical care network, the University of Florida broadly, and the surrounding community. We strive to be a nexus of collaboration between different disciplines and perspectives. We believe that open and transparent approaches are key to providing the best support for our users.

Inclusion and Accessibility

We believe everyone should have equitable access to learning, care, and work environments that are safe and welcoming. We prioritize inclusion and accessibility for library users from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. We seek a respectful and empathetic approach in empowering users to engage with information services and library spaces.

Equity and Justice

We recognize that many individuals and groups are the target of historical and present-day discrimination and injustices. We strive to bring about a more equitable and just future in all facets of our work through actions such as: recognizing and providing compensation for contributions and labor, dismantling systems of oppression, and amplifying and elevating the perspectives of underrepresented and underserved groups and their intersections.

Lifelong Learning and Innovation

We adapt to meet the evolving needs of our users and the changing landscape of health information. We actively seek to expand our own expertise, be a center for the creation and discovery of new knowledge, and pursue new ideas and innovations in support of our mission.
