Veterinary Medicine Education Center

General Overview

The College of Veterinary Medicine’s Education Center (in the area formerly known as the “Reading Room”) serves as a physical venue to support the educational activities within the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), and is located in room V1-110 of the Veterinary Academic Building at 1945 SW 16th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32608.

The new Computer Lab is a collaborative learning space that supports team-based, and problem-based learning activities. Instructors are be able to switch and share screens between instructors and students, and create active learning exercises through the use of virtual whiteboards shared amongst the lab.

Hours of Operation

Staffed hours (excluding UF-observed holidays): Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Circulated items (books and journals) may only be checked out during staffed hours. Changes to business hours are sent via UF e-mail to all CVM faculty, staff and students.

For security purposes, many of the CVM buildings are locked on weekends and weekdays after 5:00 PM. Access to the library at these times is through the Small Animal Teaching Hospital.

Unstaffed hours of operation: the center is open for general study purposes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, excluding UF-observed holidays, and pre-announced brief closing periods. Faculty, staff and students will be informed of scheduled closing via UF e-mail notifications.

While the Veterinary Medicine Education Center does not have a permanent librarian on staff, there is a librarian located at the Health Science Center Library that assists the College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and students. Hannah Norton will do all she can to meet your information needs.

Services

Circulation
Most books and journals have a ONE-DAY check-out period. Items on reserve have a ONE HOUR check-out period. A valid Gator 1 card is required to check out all materials.

Reference

Computer Access
There are 12 workstations available in the Education Center for use by veterinary medicine students and staff.

Photocopying

  • There a single self-service photocopy machine available to users in the Veterinary Medicine Education Center. Charge copying/printing transactions to your Gator-1 card.
  • B/W copying/printing costs $.10 per page (at all libraries).
  • Color copying/printing costs $.50 per page
